The Sensex, which crossed the 6,670 levels shortwhile ago, is now up 59 points at 6,662 as buying remains steady in select heavyweight and tech stocks. Auto and power stocks continue to attract buying support.
The Sensex finally ended with a gain of 327 points at 18,853. In the process, the index reversed its six-day downtrend wherein it had shed 7% (1,403 points). The Nifty gained 89 points at 5,609.
The Sensex opened with a positive gap of 14 points at 7,819, and zoomed to a high of 7,902 in early deals.

However, ITC, Nestle, State Bank of India, Reliance Industries, Asian Paints and Tata Consultancy Services were among the laggards.
Bajaj Finserv, IndusInd Bank, Adani Ports, UltraTech Cement, Bajaj Finance, Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys, Bharti Airtel, Hindustan Unilever and JSW Steel were the other big laggards.
The Sensex rallied to a high of 12,760, before settling with a gain of 282 points (2.3%) at 12,697.
The Sensex opened positive with a gain of 18 points at 3,596, but slipped immediately on profit-booking in old and new economy stocks, and touched a low of 3,573.
Larsen and Toubro (L&T), ICICI Bank and Reliance Industries (RIL) were the top-three stocks that accounted for over 60 per cent of the 991-point gain in the Sensex between October 15 (Sensex at 19,057) and October 29 (Sensex at 19,978). Larsen and Toubro, which was the top gainer among the Sensex stocks, was also the largest contributor, adding 336.09 points to the Sensex's total gains.
The Sensex opened with a huge positive gap of 53 points at 7,974, but dropped to a low of 7,921 in early morning deals.
Top gainers in the Sensex pack included Sun Pharma, Tata Steel, ONGC, UltraTech Cement, NTPC and PowerGrid.
The 30-share BSE Sensex opened 13 points higher at 13,398.

The Sensex opened marginally higher at 6,219 and gained more ground on strong buying in select countes to touch an early high of 6,250.

After an 85-point gain yesterday, the markets opened on a negative gap of 9 points at 4,919. However, buying commenced due to which the indices moved into the green.
The Sensex rallied sharply towards the closing hours on relentless buying support in techs, auto, pharma and select PSU stocks, and finally notched up 81 points gains to close at 4,275. The Nifty also advanced 29 points to 1,358.
The Nifty, too, firmed up on broad-based buying support, and scaled up 1.24% or 22 points to close at 1,772.
The Nifty, after a mixed outing, rose 3.01% (53 points) to close above the 1,800 levels at 1,822.
After tumbling over 100 points yesterday, the Sensex today opened on a strong note at 7,172 - up 27 points over its previous close.

Cipla has advanced 2 per cent (Rs 25) to Rs 1,035. Ranbaxy has gained 1.6 per cent (Rs 16) to Rs 1,017. Dr. Reddy's and Glaxo are also trading with gains.
